We are often asked the valid question, "What do you mean by low-support needs?" We hope to help give some guidelines below for the typical HUB 302 event.
HUB 302 uniquely focuses on building a safe community of adult friends. Therefore, our group goes beyond just HUB 302 events. HUB 302 strives for spectrum-friendly events, a safe and supportive environment where anxieties are lowered.
HUB 302 does hope to do some events, such as bus trips and zooms, which would incorporate a much larger community than just HUB 302.
- requires minimal assistance or accommodations to navigate their daily life. We welcome non-speaking adults accompanied by a professional.
- while having unique perspectives, strengths, and challenges associated with their autistic traits, their level of self-sufficiency allows them to function relatively well without extensive support or interventions.
- HUB 302 recognizes that support needs can vary widely among neurodivergent individuals, and each person should be considered on an individual basis.
HUB 302 fosters a safe and inclusive environment where all Peers feel respected and valued. Some examples of behaviors that could make a Peer feel unsafe, thus unwelcome are listed below:
- HUB 302 expects no aggressive or disruptive behaviors that create an atmosphere of tension or pose a physical threat to others and are not conducive to a safe environment. This includes physical aggression, yelling, running away, or behaving in a manner that makes Peers feel intimidated, stressed, or unsafe.
- HUB 302 expects someone to understand there are consequences if their actions cause harm to another person. If not, they may need outside intervention until they can be at most HUB 302 events and the Peers feel safe.
-HUB 302 expects Peers to not harass or bully others at HUB events or direct them at a Peer outside of events. This behavior is harmful and can lead to anxiety, stress, and emotional harm. Included is hate speech or discriminatory language against race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, disability, or other characteristics. As adults, many Peers feel free to speak about their gender, preferred pronouns, and sexual identity. We at HUB 302 are dedicated to respecting these aspects of our adult Peers.
